NICHOLAS GREEN DISTINGUISHED STUDENT AWARD
The National Association for Gifted Children established the Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award in 1999. Funded by the Nicholas Green Foundation, these awards are designed to recognize excellence in young children. Each award includes a $500 U.S. Savings Bond and a certificate to acknowledge young children who demonstrate excellence in all areas of endeavor, from fine and performing arts to leadership positions to academic achievement.
Maggie and Reg Green, to honor the memory of their seven-year old son, Nicholas, who was killed by a drive-by shooting while visiting Italy in 1994, established the Nicholas Green Foundation. The Greens felt it was important to recognize the gifts and talents in children who are at the age that Nicholas was when he died.
